How much does electricity cost in Tasmania?

It's important to understand the different tariffs and electricity rates in Tasmania work as these will determine how much you end up paying for electricity.

There are 5 different tariffs available. Before we get into rates and description just keep in mind:

  • The most common combination of tariffs is Tariff 31 (lights and power) and Tariff 41 (heating and hot water).
  • Customers looking to get on Tariff 93 (time of use) will need a smart meter.
  • Tariff 62 is a controlled load tariff applicable to certain residential properties. It'll kick in during off-peak, night period only. It may be used for water and space heating.

  • Good to know. Anyone needing a new gas connection will need to contact Tas Gas for installation. You will be charged a service fee depending on the type of appliances you plan to run using gas. For example, Tas Gas has a $300 fee for standard connections.
